Pact began working in Indonesia in 1981, building the capacity of local organizations to combat HIV and AIDS, supporting street children and strengthening local civil society organizations.
Today, we’re continuing to improve health in Indonesia. We recently completed a years-long, USAID-funded effort to build the capacity of local health organizations, and as a partner in USAID's MOMENTUM project, Pact is also working to improve maternal, newborn and child health, family planning and reproductive health here.
Through USAID Green Invest Asia, Pact supported countries in Asia, including Indonesia, to achieve sustainable landscape-related climate mitigation goals as submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The project catalyzed private sector finance to upscale and drive investments in agriculture, forestry and other land use toward low-emission, profitable business models.
Our environment work continues with our efforts supporting subnational government agencies in Indonesia to achieve environmental governance that advances sustainable management in biodiversity conservation and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from land use. Working with local conservationists and shrimp farmers, we are also helping to restore critical mangrove ecosystems.
