act provides technical support and assistance to John Snow International's STI/AIDS program and to the Ministry of Health to build the capacities of the ministry's staff and local NGOs to effectively manage and implement key health program activities.
Interim results
- Organized participation of National AIDS Control Program, USAID, UNAIDS and Malagasy partner organizations and facilitated meeting of 100+ STI/HIV partners on lessons learned and best practices in STI and HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment in Madagascar.
- Supervised analysis of existing STI/AIDS communications materials for the development and distribution of a basic behavior-change communications tool kit for STI and HIV/AIDS prevention.
- Supervised development of first mass-media program (4 TV and 16 Radio spots) on STI and HIV/AIDS prevention and behavior change.
- Provided direct support and technical assistance to Ministry of Health/National AIDS Control Program and to the Prime Minister's Office/National HIV/AIDS Coordination Bureau.
- Collaborated with JSI in training major national health-sector NGOs in preparation and development of grant proposals in support of critical reproductive health and child survival program goals resulting in the award of ten major grants to NGOs and private sector partners.
- Provided direct technical assistance and support to 20 Ministry of Health District Management Teams (EMADs) on analysis of their organizational and managerial capacities as well as the development and mentoring of new skills and capacities for EMAD team members.
- Developed organizational, technical and financial sustainability strategies for ten NGO and private sector partners in key focus regions.
