The Local Governance Barometer (LGB)

The Local Governance Barometer (LGB) is a participatory, multi-stakeholder approach to measuring and comparing the performance of any governance system. Developed in collaboration with Impact Alliance partners IDASA and SNV, the LGB is centered around a user-friendly tool developed from cutting-edge technology in information engineering that can model the complex nature of governance systems and provide concrete analyses for decision-making.

The LGB employs both qualitative and quantitative data within a "knowledge-based" model to assist in understanding the complex relationships between different capacities at each level of governance. This methodology offers local governments, civil society, and donors a standardized and holistic method of assessing governance capacity. Furthermore, through the process and assessment results, stakeholders are led in identifying priority intervention areas for improving local governance through capacity building initiatives
