What We Do

Scaling Up for Social Impact

Take a learning break—explore powerful ways to scale up your organization's social impact.

Achieving scale necessitates new tools that incorporate concepts such as collaborative innovation, networking, open sourcing, multi-stakeholder strategies, and approaches that come from sectors other than our own, including the business world.  The next two workshops in the series are:

Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) with Claudia Liebler - November 12-14, 2008

Organizational Capacity Assessment Training of Facilitators with Evan Bloom - February 2-6, 2009

Each workshop will be supported by the CBSG team.

See below for workshop descriptions.  All workshops will last from 9am-5pm each day and will be held in Washington, D.C. at the location(s) noted below.

Organizational Network Analysis
With Claudia Liebler – November 12-14, 2008
NEW Location: Room 1904, Offices of Wilmer Hale, 1875 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, D.C. 20006

Come learn one of the most promising network diagnostic methodologies available from a Pact team that has applied network analysis in over a dozen countries.  Clients include global organizations such as the World Bank Institute, UNDP, and numerous international and local NGOs and government institutions.

Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) is a powerful tool for visualizing, monitoring and benchmarking our formal and informal networks.  At the end of the workshop, participants will know how to administer an ONA including creating a simple survey, using InFlow software, creating a network map, analyzing the metrics, and working with the client to apply the data.

Pact's ONA approach is adapted for the social sector from tools that have been used extensively for strategic assessment and organizational strengthening purposes by Fortune 500 companies such as American Express, BP, IBM, McKinsey and Microsoft.

Organizational Capacity Assessment Training of Facilitators (OCA)
With Evan Bloom – February 2-6, 2009
Location: TBA, Washington, D.C.

Designed to bring rigor and learning to the process of organizational capacity assessment and strengthening, Pact's Organizational Capacity Assessment (OCA) tool is a product of over twelve years of research and field practice.  This comprehensive approach brings organizations together to reflect on their performance and set strategies for scaling up their social impact.

Since 1996, Pact has provided organizational capacity assessment and strengthening services to more than 25 international NGOs, corporations such as Dow Jones and Time Inc., and over 500 local NGOs and local governments in 22 countries worldwide.

In this workshop, participants will:

  • Learn how to design and lead an OCA
  • Identify and build on organizational strengths
  • Identify divergent viewpoints on capacity through the open exchange of ideas
  • Create consensus around a strategic vision
  • Generate the information needed to select, implement and track organizational change and development strategies
  • Assess performance in relation to a broader grouping of user organizations through the creation of "cohort user groups"
  • Communicate with and receive information about the capacity-building efforts of colleague organizations through a learning network

Join us for this rare event and be a part of a growing community of OCA practitioners worldwide.  To register, please submit the registration fee by clicking below on "add to cart" and send an e-mail to Abra Pollock with your name, affiliation and title (if any), contact information, and how you found out about the workshop.
