Dr. Kgauhelo Lekalakala

Deputy Director, OVC


Dr. Kgauhelo Lekalakala is the Deputy Director of OVC for the PEPFAR-funded ACHIEVE project which supported the South African Department of Social Development (DSD) in turning around the provision of services for OVCAY. She leads the Pact team in South Africa responsible for OVC interventions (comprehensive case management and DREAMS Let's Talk Family Strengthening) in four provinces. Prior to her current role as Pact, she was national technical lead, national program manager and Limpopo Provincial program manager and was responsible for program development and capacity development support for DSD national and provincial teams on child protection and the provision of comprehensive response to children orphaned due to HIV and AIDS. She is currently coordinating the technical team responsible for development of DSD's Disclosure and Adherence Program as part of a response to integrated HIV response for chidlren and adolescents living with HIV in line with DSD Guidelines for Social Service Practitioners: Enabling Access to HIV Services. 

Dr.  Lekalakala has extensive experience in the social development sector as a rural development practitioner for EDA Trust, generic social worker and child care and protection social worker in government in the UK and South Africa. She also practized as a social work field instructor, supervisor, facilitator and practice teacher, working with South African and UK universities, and as an independent social worker in the UK and South Africa.
